Announcement of successful applicants:

There are three faculties within the Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design:

Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Design

The admission assessment system consists of 4 steps:

  1. Application form, interest and motivation statement
  2. Studio/Aptitude Test
  3. Personal portfolio
  4. Interview (These differ in some departments.)

1. APPLICATION FORM, INTEREST AND MOTIVATION STATEMENT

  • Application Form – personal information, contact details and department(s) you would like to apply to
  • The content of the short interest and motivation statement (200-300 words) that will be attached to the application form or sent to the university by e-mail or delivered in person before participating in the Studio/Aptitude Test:

What is your interest and motivation?

Your observations on an artistic work, a qualified design product, animation, video, film, exhibition etc. that captures your attention in the Department(s) you are applying for. Please also indicate your knowledge about your particular selection(s) and why you are interested in it/them.

2. STUDIO/APTITUDE TEST

2a. Faculty of Arts, Aptitude Test

  • The Aptitude Test will be performed on a desired paper size as a pencil drawing from a live/inanimate model or composition that the instructors consider appropriate.
  • The required materials will be supplied by ARUCAD.

2b. Faculty of Communication, Aptitude Test 

  • The Aptitude Test will be performed on a desired paper size as a pencil drawing from a live/inanimate model or composition that the instructors consider appropriate.
  • The required materials will be supplied by ARUCAD.
  • Aptitude Test is not required for the applications to New Media Department.  The candidates should submit a cover letter of maximum five hundred words as to why they have chosen the New Media department.

2c. Faculty of Design, Studio Test  

A- PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS (30%)

1) Students should take a photograph of;
a) An object -Industrial Design applicants
b) A building-Architecture applicant
c) A space-Interior Architecture applicant

Students will be required to submit their photograph in colour in an A4 format with a cover page which includes;
• Name
• Name of the high school
• Date of birth
• E-mail address
• Current phone number

Students should be prepared to discuss their experience and association with this work during the interview process.

2) Students should provide 2 (two) sketches;
a) An object -Industrial Design applicants
b) A building-Architecture applicant
c) A space-Interior Architecture applicant

Students can also add their previous work and sketches to their portfolio along with these two new sketches

3) Students should find an image of historical value (related to their choice of department; i.e. Interior, industrial or architecture) and write approximately 250 words essay to discuss the image’s historical value.

B- EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (10%)
a. Prospect students are required to provide a letter of motivation expressing the reasons why they want to study in their selected course. The letter should not be more than 500 words.

C- EXAM (40 %)

All prospect students are required to sit in an exam where their skills of understanding design and knowledge of design will be assessed by making and answering design related questions

D- INTERVIEW (20 %)
The interview will about the prospect students’ portfolio and they will be asked their approach to their portfolio challenge.

3. PERSONAL PORTFOLIO FILE

  • The Portfolio File will be submitted to the assessment committee by the applicant during the interview.
  • Candidate students without a portfolio can also apply. Presenting a portfolio file will provide an advantage to the applicants in the evaluation of applications and scholarships.
  • The portfolio may contain the following types and/or different original studies
  1. Free or model drawing
  2. Experimental video – short films
  3. Colour – Painting
  4. Graphic – Novel
  5. Thematic work
  6. Doodle and sketch
  7.  Illustration
  8. Mixed material application
  9. Digital illustration
  10. Animation
  11. Photograph
  • The Portfolio File must consist of a maximum of 25 works that represents the candidate.
  • Portfolio content should be in the format appropriate for the candidate’s work.
  • Portfolio content should be prepared and submitted in a CD/DVD, in PDF and/or jpg format.

4. INTERVIEW

  • International candidates may be asked to be interviewed. The interview may be carried out on the internet (skype, facetime etc.) if necessary.
  • The applicant will present the portfolio in person during the interview.
  • Questions can be asked by the assessment committee during the presentation and expression of the candidate’s portfolio.
  • The purpose of the interview is to gather information about the applicant and his/her interest of the Art/Design field(s) he/she applies to.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Candidates will be evaluated by the assessment committee according to the grading system mentioned below. Placements will be announced as a Primary Candidate List and an Alternative Candidate List.

You can choose max. three departments.

The content of the short interest and motivation statement should be between 200 and 300 words, excluding New Media Department. The candidates should submit a cover letter of maximum 500 words as to why they have chosen the New Media department.

Candidate students must submit scanned copies of their original works such as drawings, paintings and photographs to admissions@arucad.edu.tr in a single compressed file in jpg or video format, or to ARUCAD Student Affairs in CD/DVD format. The portfolio file should consist of no more than 25 works that the candidate thinks represents him or her.

The file size to be sent must not exceed 5 MB.
