Communication Design and Management
Communication, which is a general function in business and social life, ensures the realisation of vital processes such as product and service production, social cohesion, the spread of ideas, and interpersonal relations.
In the ARUCAD Communication Design and Management programme, an integrated curriculum based on art and communication-based design and the professional planning and management of communication has been created.
Throughout their training, the students of the department are committed to designing and strategically combining creative and qualified communication content, communication processes, corporate communication actions, corporate communication tools and media, which are necessary for the specific target audiences of different types of sectors such as the business world, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, with an artistic perspective. They will learn to manage. In this way, students will graduate equipped with holistic skills and knowledge, having an equal command of the academic-scientific and artistic-creative aspects of the profession.
Graduates of the department will be able to work as corporate communication experts in business, public organisations and non-governmental organisations as communication professionals who simultaneously master both aspects of the communication profession; that is, the artistic-design aspect of communication and the managerial aspect of communication.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Korkmaz Alemdar
Head of Department
After graduating from Ankara Gazi High School in 1965, Prof. Dr. Alemdar received his undergraduate diploma at Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences School of Press and Broadcasting in 1969. He reveiced a scholoarship from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Education and went to France where he completed his postgraduate degree in European Studies of the University of Strasbourg (1972) and completed his doctorate degree in the communication sciences program (1975). At the same faculty, he became Associate Professor in the year 1980 and received the title of Professor in the year 1990.
In 1976, he became a research assistant at Gazi University Faculty of Communication, previously known as Ankara Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy School of Journalism and Public Relations. He joined the Ankara University Faculty of Communication in 1992 and served as the dean of Gazi University Communication Faculty between 2004-2009.
He was elected as a member of the Radio and Television Supreme Council by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in October, 2010 and carried out this duty until July, 2011. He also served at the UNESCO Turkey National Commission as Vice-President between the years 2004 and 2010 and as president at the UNESCO National Commission of Turkey Specialized Committee on Communication between the years 2004 and 2010.
Prof. Dr. Alemdar later continued to give undergraduate and postgraduate lectures in the TRNC and became faculty member of few universities.
While Prof. Dr. Alemdar's research interests include theories and history of communications sociology theories and also popular culture, media history, journalism and journalists in Turkey, he has also written books and articles on topics such as the functioning of ethics and media industry.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sinan Arkın
Sinan Arkın was born in Istanbul in 1981. He completed his undergraduate degree in The
Johns Hopkins College in the U.S. on Physics and Astronomy. Later on, He completed his master’s degree and doctorate on Mathematics in the Imperial College of London.
Alongside his studies, he was a researcher in the Middle East Technical University and went on to be a lecturer there as well.
Arkın, who took place in many international projects, continues on to give conferences and broadcasts. Amongst these conferences and broadcasts was also UNESCO and many other respected institutions which helped him to be nominated and win awards. Sinan Arkın is continuing his science researches while also working in ARUCAD.
Sinan Arkın is the chairman of the board of trustees of ARUCAD and director of the board of AREKAV.
