Photography and Video
The Department of Photography and Video at the ARUCAD offers their students to take part in an intense four-years program with its strong vision of an interdisciplinary approach in order to fulfill the specific needs of each student. We are committed to providing open, well informed and critical surroundings for the personal and professional development of the artist with a devotion of providing bursary support.
Graduates from The Department of Photography and Video are well placed to become independent practitioners, working as artists or pursue art-related profession at distinct careers in the field to a wide range of industries. And, some moves onto postgraduate studies and makes an academic career in exciting and diverse contexts.
Prof. Dr. Nur Onat
Head of Photography and Video
Born in 1973 in Istanbul. She completed her primary and secondary education in Istanbul. In 1992 She began her art education at The Photography Department of Mimar Sinan University’s Fine Arts Faculty, graduated in 1996 and the same year she went to the USA for research on photography and contemporary art. She has got her masters degree in 2003, her Ph.D in 2005 and Associate Professor title in 2011. Since 1989 Onat has been using photography as an expressional medium and her field of study focusing especially on the link between photography and other art disciplines and contemporary photography. She has participated in numerous national and international art exhibitions and events, won international awards, taken roles in academic projects and published academic contributions. She continues to give lectures on contemporary photography and photography techniques.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Gulsen Bal
Gulsen Bal, Asst. Prof. PhD - Dr., graduated in the field of time-based media art in London and studied MA degree in Critical Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design where she undertook her doctoral study. Her research has involved exploring the temporal and strategic conjunctions of differential structures seeking to understand the implications and complexity of the “production of subjectivity” formulated in creative practices at the edge of multiple strategies within the creative strand.
Bal is a curator and an art and visual culture theorist. She has been the director and Head of Development of Projects and Programs the Open Space - Zentrum für Kunstprojekte within its multi-layered constituents since 2007 over the years. She was a full time lecturer and hold the positions of Head of Department as well as Course and Program Co-ordinator at Istanbul Bilgi University that is part of Laureate International Universities network between 2013-2017. She lectured part time at Istanbul Yeditepe University at the Department of Arts and Management for an MA degree program at the same time. Also, she taught visual cultural studies at Technische Universität Wien in the Visual Culture Department at the duration of 2008-2013.
She has curated, and participated in art fairs and biennials in various places and venues internationally as well as in Turkey. She has published articles and edited 15 books.

Lecturer Cengiz Bodur
Having completed his undergraduate and graduate studies on art and digital visualization at Hacettepe University, Cengiz Bodur has been working on his doctorate in the field of photography. He continues to work in the field of photography as an artist.
