SAYD 101      Studio 1 (2-8) 6

This first design studio is structured to introduce students to the design process and explain the content; The contents, different tools, studio culture, and business methodologies explore different ways to activate the design studio environment and work the design language in an abstract way. The application of basic design principles has been prepared within the scope of formal layout systems and geometric manipulations. It aims to convey the use of a range of tools, skills in communication, research, cultural and contextual studies through a set of theoretical and practical foundations for study and idea development. By focusing on “self and the environment”, students will experience the body (mass), and space and place spatially. In the studio, it is used to investigate various transformation techniques and controlled articulation of mass, increase and influence student perceptions, the development of observational skills, and the knowledge of design tools. Art and design installations will be created as a group or individual work and the main project will be supported by short-term workshops, seminars, research and presentations.

 

SAYD 111      History of Design (3-0) 3

Examination of the historical development of design in various aspects. An overview of design activities throughout the ages with different socio-cultural structure characteristics. The development of the concept of necessity-tool production in prehistoric times. Examination of the development of the use tools of the prehistoric medieval periods in terms of civilizations and technologies.

 

SAYD 121      Calculus I (3-0) 3

This course; It is the introduction of mathematical analysis, which is a sub-branch of mathematics. Especially in engineering, it is the basis of all modeling and the language of translating physical phenomena into mathematics. Students examine the connections of the values to be observed according to other measurable values that change them with the help of certain physical rules. Boundaries and continuity, derivatives, optimization, linearization and graphing, applications of Mean Value Theorem derivatives, integration, Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, areas, solid volumes, arc length. Works on conic sections.

 

INAD 103      Design Communication I (1-4) 3

This course provides students; teaches the basics of drawing and sketching. Introduces basic competencies in Computer Aided Design and Drafting. It provides the ability to communicate on behalf of production by showing the visual and technical details of a design with three-dimensional (3D) models and technical drawings. The main reason for this discipline is that the student produces effective and impressive ways of sharing ideas, using an approach that focuses on both problem solving and persuasion. Students will develop their ability to conceptualize, develop and communicate design ideas and potential results by experimenting with a variety of media techniques and tools in design practice.

 

INAD 109      Research Methods and Discourses (2-2) 3

This course takes a systematic approach to doing research and aims to develop students’ skills such as reading academic texts critically, writing scientific texts, and developing research questions. Presents a general research methodology and discusses a broad range of disciplines that can be used as specific methods / tools in design-related research such as philosophy, sociology, and anthropology.

 

SOFL 101      Academic English I  (3-0) -3

Students who regularly attend this course; They will have the opportunity to practice a range of study skills, including but not limited to goal setting, organization, time use, concentration and note taking. Students will be given important articles written in modern English and students will learn to discuss and write responses at an academic level. At the end of the lessons, each student will be able to derive the meaning of unknown words in a reading text, write paragraphs and articles, summarize, discuss and write reply letters.

SECOND SEMESTER

 

SAYD 102      Studio II (2-8) 6                                Prerequiste:   SAYD 101

This second term design studio, which is a continuation of Studio I, consolidates the learning experiences that improve students ‘expressive skills with the students’ further expanded design vocabulary. Students will develop the concepts of scale, layout, material structure and ergonomics. They will meet the basic design principles and the versatility of plan, section and mixed organization and layout systems and develop their conceptual approach to design solutions. The design text of the studio will investigate the effects of design elements on the spaces they create, experiential connections and contradictions between internal and external environments (micro-scale to macro-scale, inside-out), and techniques for transforming information into form. All basic principles and elements within the scope of visual and verbal perception and expression are transferred to students through theoretical and experimental practice in order to develop an analytical process for design. Students also get acquainted with environmental and social responsibilities in design.

 

SAYD 116      History of  Yatch Design  (3-0) 3

This course introduces the main approaches that historians have taken to study Maritime and Maritime History, introducing the most influential methodological approaches in this field, starting with the traditional and classical approaches based on geographic exploration studies and the expansion of individual European empires. More recent focus has been on the interactions and interdependencies between different imperial and economic systems and the vital interaction between economic, political and strategic concerns. Contrary to popular belief, the historical factor that turns megayachts into a social commodity and in a sense shapes its identity is not sailors, but social classes holding the economic power on the land and transporting them to the seas.

 

SAYD 122      Calculus II (3-0) 3                            Prerequisite: SAYD 121

This course is a continuation of SAYD 121 Calculus I. In this lesson, students will learn that a quantity with which they can measure change is based on the value of variables. Therefore, inverse functions; transcendental functions, integration techniques; improper integrals, graphics in polar coordinates; vectors and analytical geometry in space, functions of various variables; extreme values and saddle points, double integral in rectangular and polar coordinates; Understands the issues related to triple integrals in rectangular coordinates and become able to make related calculations.

 

INAD 104      Design Communication II (1-4) 3               Prerequisite: INAD 103

This course develops two and three dimensional visual communication basics covered in INAD 103. Students; It enables them to demonstrate significant skills and understanding of how to create and manipulate two-dimensional and three-dimensional images and forms. Digital illustration and scanning techniques will also be covered in this course.

 

INDD 205      Prototypes and Modelmaking (1-4) 3

A prototype model is a model that shows what a design will look like after production. This model can have the same dimensions as the design, or it can be proportionally reduced. The aim of this course is to learn the conditions of making the design material and form before starting production.

 

SOFL 102      Academic English II (3-0) 3                        Prerequisite: SOFL 101

It is a continuation of the Academic English I course. Students who regularly attend this course will have the opportunity to practice many study skills, including but not limited to setting goals, organizing, using time, concentrating, and taking notes. Students will be given important articles written in modern-day English and students will learn to discuss and write responses at an academic level. At the end of the lessons, each student will be able to understand the meaning of unknown words in a reading passage and write paragraphs and articles.

SAYD 201      Studio  III (2-8) 6                             Prerequisited: SAYD 102

This third design studio focuses on developing personal design expressions, as well as material texture and building details and building / site and building / structure relationships. Students are encouraged to engage in a reflective design process that produces a consistent and speculative design program through understanding and analyzing social, cultural and architectural environments. By developing their designs and construction projects, students are introduced to land design, accessibility requirements, climatic design decisions and address the different needs of users.

 

SAYD 221      Physics (3-0) 3

In this course, while students reach the level of scientifically literate, they know the nature of science and understand how knowledge is obtained. Perceives that knowledge in science is based on known facts and can change as new evidence is collected. Measuring for ship and yacht design in basic science, conversion of units to SI system, vectors, linear and 2D state of motion, Newton’s Laws, work, energy and energy transformation, momentum and collisions, rotation of rigid bodies, dynamics of rotational motion, torque and works on static balance issues.

 

SAYD 231 Ship Theory and Geometry (3-0) 3

To teach underwater form design properties of floating bodies. Giving information about the relationship between hull geometry and performance. Giving information about hydrostatics and stability of floating bodies. Giving information about the resistance and components of floating objects.

 

INAD 203      Digital Tools in Design I (1-4) 3

This course aims to introduce and discuss the history of computers and the emergence of digital tools. While examining the effects of digital perspective in the physical and social environment, basic forms of computational and interactive design are experienced. Students will develop awareness of various possibilities in design by using open source digital tools in the design process. From basic digital languages and tools to designs that are shaped interactively with the human senses, and to examine how digital and mixed technology improve the architectural use of materials, building and space are among the objectives of this course.

 

INAD 207      Environment and Design (1-2) 2   

This course provides a basis for the design of the environment from the scale of objects to the scale of the building and from the scale of the building to larger scales. It deals with real-life problems affecting products, buildings, and cities around the world, and requires an understanding of the concepts necessary for people to live their lives in appropriate environments.

 

INDD 211      Materials, Production and Processes  (2-2) 3

The first half of this course is designed to provide an understanding of materials, properties of materials, and material fabrication as an essential element of the design process, and to stimulate a passion for exploration and manipulation of materials in a design context. The course also aims to provide a basis for manufacturing processes from small object scale to specific large scale. In this context, production processes are described as technical; Analysis of typical practices, design opportunities and reflections of each process; and provides information on cost, duration and environmental impact.

 

AIIT 201        Ataturk Reforms I (2-0) 2

Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution course; telling students how to establish the circumstances under which the Republic of Turkey, forming the government intends to adopt the basic principles of Ataturk. The reason why his principles were transferred to the field of application is explained with case studies that not only the Turkish Nation but also the whole humanity need more than ever.

 

TUDI 201       Turkish Language I (2-0) 2

The aim of the course is to comprehend the structure and functioning features of the mother tongue to every young person who has higher education and to gain the ability to use Turkish correctly and beautifully as a means of written and verbal expression in terms of language-thought connection. Another goal is to make a unifying and integrative language prevailing in teaching and to raise young people who have native language awareness.

FOURTH SEMESTER

SAYD 202      Studio  IV (2-8) 6                              Prerequisite : SAYD 201

The fourth semester design studio presents the design language closely related to modeling, drawing and digital process techniques for the construction of the design idea. Students comprehend the space, architectural elements, material shapes and connection methods of architectural elements at different scales, including the physical and phenomenological features found in urban space. The course will focus on the technical reasons of structure and construction, surface and material, and material constraints in interior and exterior spaces, addressing public space design, circulation and urban relations. Mechanical infrastructures, structural articulation and environmental systems will be assessed for consistency in the design process through the construction of material-oriented models. Students will also experience the application boundaries between digital and physical media.

 

SAYD 222      Structure (3-0) 3                  

In this course, the student will be able to think abstractly in design in general and in space organization in particular in the field of Yacht Design; In this context, by investigating the relations between function, structure, material, technology and form, giving the necessary information about the use of geometric theory and techniques and physical determinants in product design with examples; to transfer the basic principles and ultimately gain the student the ability to analyze and synthesize the whole. Basic concepts related to structure, strength, durability, material, technology, form and structure relationship; historical development of the structure with its main lines, traditional and contemporary structures; carving, fracture, skeleton, shell / shallow, spatial-cage, hanging-stretching, tent, pneumatic and mixed systems, basic structural principles in product design in the field of industrial design are explained as a concept.

 

INAD 204      Human factors and Ergonomics (2-0) 2

In order for people to work in a healthy, safe and efficient manner, the workplace and the necessary equipment, sound, lighting, environmental temperature, and the systems for work organization and management must be arranged for the structural, dimensional and psychological characteristics of the human being. The main task of ergonomics is to carry out a work arrangement in line with the above objectives. In a sense, ergonomics can be defined as the organization of work in accordance with human characteristics. The aim of the course is to use this information in the field of interior architecture.

 

INAD 210      Interior Element Design and Fabrication (1-2) 2

Interior architecture and decoration elements and textiles will be introduced and their integration with the architecture of the space in terms of aesthetics and functionality will be explained. The terms used internationally are introduced. Material and form relation, importance of texture and motif, aesthetic and functional relationship of textile with space will be discussed.

 

INAD 212 Digital Tools in Design II (1-4) 3                      Prerequisite:  INAD 203

It is a continuation of the INAD 209 course. It is aimed that the student can make 3D architectural drawing and modeling in computer environment. The use and presentation of computer aided design on architectural drawings and 3D objects constitute the content of the course.

 

TUDI 202       Turkish Language II (2-0) 2

SAYD 301      Studio V (2-8) 8                                Prerequisite: SAYD 202

In design studio V, the physical realities of the building and the dual impact of design and environment will be explored on a larger urban (metropolitan) scale. Emphasis will be placed on transformation methodology as an approach to the realization of various spatial organizations, material properties of surfaces and properties, as well as building and construction technologies. Students will also be directed to the tectonics and environmental effects of the design solution, the performance of the proposed design in an urban, universal, global context (metropolis).

 

SAYD 303      Materials , Production and Processes II  (3-0) 3

In this course, students explore the concept of design technology and innovations in design technology. In addition, as a result of the examination of the relationship between buildings and related basic technologies, it is aimed to coordinate students’ design studies with structure and materials, with materials and design technologies, building and design technology, meaning and sustainability of buildings and building elements.

SIXTH SEMESTER

 

SAYD 302      Studio VI (2-8) 8                               Prerequisite : SAYD 301

The goal of this design studio 6 is to develop the ability to work with broader design concerns in a large-scale context. In this context, students will gain the ability to express a contemporary ship and yacht design solution while exploring the concerns of needs (social, economic, cultural, political). Students will analyze and determine the different aspects of public and institutional space, the logic of the fluid, architectural elements and their subtleties. Building on the knowledge and skills established in previous studios, this design studio focuses on unique design ideas that reveal interdisciplinary relationships and reflections on design realization. Human-space-function relations, original spatial compositions, use of materials, construction techniques, texture, light and other necessary details will be discussed and applied in detail.

 

SAYD 342 Interio detailing and Design (2-2) 3

This course aims to teach students the vision of designing buildings / spaces using three different ways of interaction within a design thinking time: creativity, multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary, ability, and learning. Detailed design thinking is introduced to students as an innovative tool for enhancing creative confidence, solving architectural design problems, and human-centered exploration. With empathy, thinking, prototyping, and rapid testing, students understand human needs and therefore propose more suitable design solutions to meet these needs.

 

SAYD 362      Advanced 3D Modelling Techniques (1-4) 3

The aim of this course is; To teach 3D modeling using Computer Aided Design, to combine the prepared digital images digitally and to discuss their production and animation. Exploded Perspective Animation and Technical drawing, Photo-Realistic Rendering. To ensure that they have a professional value that they can develop in their university and after-school professional lives, concrete and according to their needs.

 

INDD 308      Augmented and Virtual Reality Studio  (1-2) 2

This course aims to introduce students to the world of Augmented and Virtual Realities and help them develop their own voices using these fascinating new technologies. It also introduces students to the latest technologies in design and presentation; In doing so, it draws parallels in how students are at the forefront of technology and how to use these tools for their contemporary design practice. The course will teach students from photo realism to hyper-stylization and texture, lighting, scanning, photographic viewpoints, topology, etc. It offers working opportunities from different directions.

 

FOURTH YEAR

SEVENTH SEMESTER

 

INDD 401      Final Major Project Proposal (2-6) 5        

This course aims to develop a methodology in which students can conceptually and technically demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired to develop design concepts. Students will undertake contextual and site specific research and analysis for a thesis proposal to be developed and defended in the Final Main Project Studio as a contribution to contemporary discourses. The course focuses on the research, observation and fulfillment of advanced programs required for a self-sufficient, innovative architectural proposition. Students will apply a critical approach to architecture with the question of the role of architecture in present and future societies and the theoretical and technological effects of contemporary architectural design.

 

SAYD 401      Studio VII (2-10) 8               Prerequisite: INDD 302; 

The experimental design studio aims to re-evaluate students’ skills and design approaches as a tool to expand their design abilities towards independent thinking and problem-solving skills when presented with contingencies. Students will be encouraged to have a sense of creating the manifesto of the idea, applying an independent methodology to deal with the changes occurring randomly, the errors created, and the distortion of the truth. The studio will focus on the act of idea and experimentation in design thinking, conceptualization and realization. The aim of this studio is to encourage students to deepen their research for the final major project proposal in different disciplines.

 

SAYD 412      Marketing (3-0) 3

Examining the concept of marketing by examining consumer behavior in the cycle of sociology, culture and microeconomics. Defining microeconomics, marketing, consumer concepts. Affecting the formation and development of this recipe; context and environment, consumer behavior, professional terminology, market, marketing mix; product, distribution, price, sales efforts, advertising, public relations, corporate identity, company policies.

EIGHTH SEMESTER

 

SAYD 402      Final Major Project  (2-12) 8          Prerequisite: INDD 401, INDD 403

In this last project, to analyze design issues with complex function and processing scheme in multi-storey buildings; establishing interior-environment relations; It is aimed to develop original design proposals in the context of technology, material, economy and aesthetic values. Definition of different functions, determination of different requirements, analysis of space-function relationship, creation of a functional and unique spatial setup containing service areas and circulation system, detailed analysis of interior space details, dressing and processing of all surfaces of the space, selection of original equipment and determination of the lighting theme, Expressing design using contemporary graphic expression techniques are the topics covered in the course.

 

INAD 404      Professional Portfolio Design and Presentation Techniques      (1-2) 2

In this project-oriented course, students will elaborate the skills they have acquired during their education process and the work and designs they make, and organize them towards specific job / career goals. They will develop a portfolio of work that best represents their creativity and skills in interior architecture / product design and design. Students will also have the opportunity to rethink previous projects and assignments for inclusion in their portfolios. In this course, it also specifies the necessary materials for these presentations while evaluating the two-dimensional and three-dimensional presentation techniques of an idea or a product or a complex situation. The course basically covers three main presentation skills: 1) Storytelling – (persuasive and evidence-based scenario development), 2) Design – how to combine information with graphics to convey your ideas, 3) Presentation Style – how to interact with the audience.

SAYD 601      Cultural Studies (3-0) 3

This course focuses on modern and post-modern design and art from the Industrial Revolution and Enlightenment to the end of the 20th century. It provides a framework through a chronological survey of architecture, sculpture, painting, furniture, industry and graphic design, connected to cultural, political, religious, socio-economic and technological contexts and their tools. The course builds a solid knowledge of important monuments and design and artworks. It develops the skills necessary to identify the stylistic trends of the design and art of the time period in question and to describe its characteristics such as typology, iconography, material and technique. Finally, it introduces modern and post-modern design / art theories by enhancing students’ reflective critical evaluation. The course is for design students.

 

SAYD 602      Furniture Design and Manufacturing (3-0) 3

The elective course gives a wide overview about skills and techniques for the design of furniture. The practice-based approach aims to develop student’s ability to combine theoretical knowledge and creative design with manufacturing methods from traditional to the most advanced. Contents touch various subjects such as Ergonomics and the interaction human-objects; tools, manufacturing processes and materials; historical insights of furniture design. The practical section of this course will be developed in cooperation with local partners from the private and public sector, for instance shipyards, furniture workshops, art galleries and health clinics in order to involve students in assignments based on real needs and to simulate the interaction between designer and customer. There is also the possibility to engage in design competitions. In this course students learn by making their own products.

 

SAYD 603      Innovation (3-0) 3

This course; It is designed for students concerned with design, invention and meaningful expression of creative ideas. It is designed to help explore and understand their critical roles in the invention / creative process and ultimately give insight into the technologist’s role in creating wealth.

 

SAYD 604      Morphology (3-0) 3

Lesson; It aims to teach the chronological structure of design projects using the morphological process starting from the arrangement of shapes, with the method of induction in a cause – effect relationship, collecting form information according to morphological needs. Students will learn about the function, safety, operability and so on. They are expected to work on direct reflecting and linear, shape, color, material and other elements. In addition, during this study; 1. Analyzing various reasons that restrict the form, 2. Abstract connotation of forms – trend and harmonization – finding common features between new forms and natural form, geometric forms and their variations, 3. choice of form (form comfort, functional relationship, semantic, visual effect) and to explore the possibility of successful design.

 

SAYD 605      Project Management (3-0) 3

In light of the growing need for architectural project management professionals to effectively lead the design and construction phase, the new, forward-thinking architectural project management graduate course seeks to understand the design and construction phases of complex buildings while actively dealing with technological challenges in the building industry. An architectural project manager ensures that projects are designed and built on time and on budget, while maintaining the integrity of the design, while fully complying with regulations and sustainability standards and criteria. Using up-to-date knowledge in project management theory and practice, this course aims to provide students with information on what vision they should have to shape the future of the local and international construction industry and the tools they should have for this.

 

SAYD 606      Shipwreck Drawing (3-0) 3

This course aims to teach students the necessary understanding and narration techniques to develop the ability of the designer to tell with the line in the creative process, to observe and to maintain the continuity in the creation stages.

 

SAYD 607      Technopreneurship  (3-0) 3

To be able to explain the concept of techno-entrepreneur. To express the concepts of creativity and innovation. To explain the commercialization process of a business idea. To explain the details of entrepreneurial marketing. To be able to define managerial issues that techno-entrepreneurs need to know. To be able to define legal subjects that tech-entrepreneurs should know. To be able to explain the managerial issues that the techno-entrepreneur should know. SAYD 609      Trend Analysis  (3-0) 3

Within the scope of the course, socio-cultural indicators are defined, the study of processes and techniques, past and future trends are discussed. The methods that cause future trends in design are examined. In addition, it includes studies on addressing brand management in terms of competitive strategy and how brands are managed.

 

SAYD 610      Underwater Archeology (3-0) 3

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic methods of underwater archeology and to examine the most important excavations of shipwrecks and harbors. Information extracted from each find will be studied, as well as key issues related to shipbuilding, maritime traffic, and trade. In order to grasp the nature of underwater archaeological research as an integral part of the science of archeology, special attention will be paid to linking marine finds with evidence emerging from the study of historical sources and field studies.

 

VCDE 307     Infographic Design (2-2) 3

The aim of this course is to provide education about the design logic of detailed and descriptive graphic works prepared to provide easy understanding of digital data, which is considered dense in terms of content and meaning.
