Scholarship Opportunities

The university scholarship and aptitude exam dates will be determined by the rectorate and announced on our website.

There are three faculties in our university:

  • Faculty of Arts
  • Faculty of Communication
  • Faculty of Design

The application evaluation system consists of 4 steps:

  1. Application form, interest and motivation statement
  2. Studio/Aptitude Exam
  3. Personal portfolio
  4. Interview (These differ in some departments.)

1. APPLICATION FORM, INTEREST AND MOTIVATION STATEMENT

  • Application Form – personal information, contact details and department(s) you would like to apply to
  • The content of the short interest and motivation statement (200-300 words) that will be attached to the application form or sent to the university by e-mail or delivered in person before participating in the Studio/Aptitude Test:

What is your interest and motivation?

Your observations on an artistic work, a qualified design product, animation, video, film, exhibition etc. that captures your attention in the Department(s) you are applying for. Please also indicate your knowledge about your particular selection(s) and why you are interested in it/them.

2.STUDIO/APTITUDE EXAM

2 a. Faculty of Arts Aptitude Exam

  • The Aptitude Exam will be performed on a desired paper size as a pencil drawing from a live/inanimate model or composition that the instructors consider appropriate.
  • The required materials will be supplied by ARUCAD.

2b. Faculty of Communication Aptitude Exam

  • The Aptitude Exam will be performed on a desired paper size as a pencil drawing from a live/inanimate model or composition that the instructors consider appropriate.
  • The required materials will be supplied by ARUCAD.
  • Aptitude Exam is not required for the applications of New Media Department. Applicants are expected to write a motivation statement (up to 500 words) about why they chose the New Media Department.

2c. Faculty of Design Studio

  • The Studio Exam of the Faculty of Design is about making and creating.
  • Students participating in the examination will be given a design problem and will be supplied by the materials required to complete their design.

3.PERSONAL PORTFOLIO FILE

  • The Portfolio File will be submitted to the assessment committee by the applicant during the interview.
  • Candidate students without a portfolio can also apply. Presenting a portfolio file will provide an advantage to the applicants in the evaluation of applications and scholarships.
  • The portfolio may contain the following types and/or different original studies
  1. Freeform or model drawing
  2. Comic Book/Graphic-novel
  3. Thematic work
  4. Doodle and sketch
  5. Illustration
  6. Mixed material application
  7. Digital illustration
  8. Animation
  9. Photography
  10. Experimental video – short films
  11. Painting
  • The Portfolio File must consist of a maximum of 25 works that represents the applicant.
  • Portfolio content should be in the format appropriate for the applicant’s work.
  • Portfolio content should be prepared and submitted in a CD/DVD, in PDF and/or jpg format.

4.INTERVIEW

  • Interview is compulsory for TRNC citizens.
  • Turkish citizens and international applicants may have asked to be interviewed. The interview may be carried out on the internet (skype, facetime etc.) if necessary.
  • The applicant will present the portfolio in person during the interview.
  • Questions can be asked by the assessment committee during the presentation and expression of the applicant’s portfolio.
  • The purpose of the interview is to gather information about the applicant and his/her interest of the Art/Design field(s) he/she applies to.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Candidates will be evaluated by the assessment committee according to the grading system mentioned below. Placements will be announced as a Primary Applicant List and an Alternative Applicant List.

* The amount of the scholarship that the applicants will receive, will be determined after the evaluation of the instructors of the department they applied for.
